Those would be a great asset to the heart quilt I'm working on. My first quilt was made for my son while I was recuperating from surgery several years ago. It was a tessellations pattern and is now hanging in his living room.

Hi Joyce,
I was just headed off to bed (it's 1:01 a.m. on the 1st) when I saw that you had posted on my blog. Thanks so much! Please enter me in your drawing. Love the pink and red fat quarters and have a project that I could use them in!!! My first quilt was made for our daughter when we were stationed in Japan in 1970. She used it forever, took it off to college and it now resides safely, though tattered, in a pillowcase. :-)

Hi Joyce,
My first
quilt was an eye spy quilt that I went to class for. I think I upset the teacher there as I have very definite ideas about how I wanted my fabrics to look and she was not impressed, but at the end I was and that was all that mattered, It was for my daughter and all teddy bears fabrics The colours of fabrics in your giveaway remind me so much of the quilt I would love to be considered for your draw.

LOL my first quilt is a cock eyed mess it is a log cabin quilt ... but I think it can be salvaged. With lots of love and wall paper language. I am a self taught quilt maker.. I still have lots of trials and errors. But with watching Quilting shows and reading books I am getting better.
I would love to be entered in your drawing.. thank you for this generous give away.

my 1st quilt was for my first grandaughter. I had only been taking classes for 2 months and I made her an applique heart one.

My very first quilt is soooo ugly I don't like to show him. No one will accept him as a present so I still keep him as a bad memory.
No pattern, just sewing things together. No colour, just some shades of ???? light green, I suppose.
Thanks for putting my name in the draw!

these would be awesome in the quilt i have in mind for Valentine's Day- gotta start early.
Let's see my first quilt was a 9 patch- alternated with solid blocks which was all sewn and quilted by hand. I was so proud of it- and my ex took it in the divorce :(

My real first quilt was actually a Pokémon quilt for my oldest son. It was from The Quilter magazine. It was fairly simple but I had never even owned a sewing machine. I was so green that I had to write the editor and ask what the heck was broadcloth! LOL

Juryizstillout said...

Hey! Nobody told me that on a fence rail, you only use 3 colors and that they are supposed to make a pattern. So mine's a little abstract, but how can you go wrong with Laurel Birch fabric? Still turned out pretty.

Please enter me in your drawing for those yummy fabrics!

Katie Z. said...

Pretty, pretty. My first quilt was a bowtie set on point (with no setting triangles on the edges, so it was a jagged-edged quilt). Oh my. The back was pieced from fabric from my grandma's clothes-making days, and the front was all remnants from my own attempts to sew and from the remnant bin at Hobby lobby. I'm not sure it's fit for public viewing!

My first quilt was made last year as a christmas gift it was the bento box pattern done in "Packer Colors" (green and gold) for my mom a diehard Green Bay Packers fan.

:-) my very first quilt was a cheater panel (before they were really popular) that my grandmother and I worked on -- I ws doing a fiber arts class at my high school, and the teacher wouldn't allow it to be counted as a project because it wasn't either pieced or appliqued :-( It did, however, provide lots of time with my gran, and a love of the art :-)

My very first quilt came as a request from my oldest daughter when she went away to collage. I did not even own a sewing machine at the time. Great prizes, please enter me.

My first quilt was a four patch quilt with appliqued hearts in alternating blocks. I made for my daughter when she was two and made it just to use up scraps from sewing her little dresses. Little did I know I would be hooked and obsessed with quilting from that time on.

Oh, I would love to win, my first quilt was 28 years ago, when I was expecting my first baby, I got a book, cut yellow and green kitten fabric, and just followed the directions, all of my children used it and I will be getting it out for my first grand-baby due in March!!

What pretty colors! Please add my name to your giveaway! My first quilt was a long time ago...i had some blocks that i embroidered and then I alternated them with rainbow colored squares. I still have the quilt but some of the colored fabrics have bled onto the embroidered blocks. :0(

LOL! My first quilt? It was a prop for a doll - I used to be a dollmaker. I had a neighbor who quilted, so when I asked her to help with the doll quilt, she stopped, took my face in her hands, looked me in the eyes and said, "Quilting is addictive. Be warned."

Need I say more?

Oh, my first quilt is so sad. I didn't really own any fabric except those that I had used to make my kids sleeping shorts. Things like jungle animals, ugly florals from the 80's, teddy bears, airplanes, etc. My sister in law taught me to hand piece. I made lots of LARGE nine patches and set them with alternating loud fabrics. It's so loud you can't even look at it. I've never finished it....because since it's hand pieced it needs to be hand quilted, but I honestly don't want to look at it! Maybe someday I'll finish it.

Hi Joyce -

Thanks for visiting my blog - it's nice to meet you! I've entered your name in my book giveaway - good luck!

I love your fat quarters! They'd be perfect for a Valentine’s quilt project, don’t you think?

My very first quilt was created just a little over a year ago (yep, I'm new to all this!) It's a mini-quilt, 2 ft. x 2 ft. - made with scrappy Civil-war era fabrics. It's a little nine-patch set on point, and each square is no bigger than an inch. I didn’t know it was "supposed" to be hard to make, so it wasn’t! I gave it to my best friend.

Happy October - and thanks for putting my name in your drawing.

Kelly said...

My very first quilt isn't a quilt yet, just a top. I'm hoping to get it into a quilt this winter. But, I have completed a LOT of quilts since learning from that quilt top. My very first quilt, from start to finish, was a sampler that was given as a wedding gift.

Nancy said...

The first quilt that I ever made was a bullseye, with a twist (squares instead of circles- turned at different angles). Thank goodness for a mother who would push me because I wouldn't have gotten it done without her. I still can't stand to look at the quilt, and would get rid of it if my husband didn't like it so much.

paront1222@comcast.net said...

Pink and reds?? hmmm....love them!
My absolute first quilt was a green/tan/burgundy TRIP AROUND THE WORLD that I made full size and tied off. I made that exactly 16 years ago and my 24 year old daughter still uses it on a daily basis. She just loves it.
I've since made nicer and better quilts but none that mean as much as the first ever.

My first quilt is still a UFO on my list. It goes back to 1979. Pretty pathetic, eh? It was a baby quilt for my youngest son. I knew nothing about quilts except that I liked the looks of them. Maybe I'll finish it for his child someday.

Norma said...

My very "first" quilt was made when I was about ten years old. My older sister worked at a catalog order store. She brought home the old books that they had full of swatches of fabric that you could order. The pieces were about 2"x2". I tore them out of the book and sewed them together by hand to make a doll quilt. Of course. instead of right sides together, I just over lapped them and used big stitches. It held together though and I was so proud. It was the start of a 50 year fabric addiction.

My first quilt was made for our oldest daughter. I used cereal boxes to cut out templates, drew around them on my fabric, then machine pieced them. I knew nothing about 1/4 seam, accurate cutting, or much of anything else about quilting, but sure had fun. I have come a long way since then, but I still hand quilt.

My very first quilt is a quilt I made for my DS 25 years ago. But at that time I did not know anything about batting and quilting so I just put some fabrics togeter for a star and added backing without any batting between it.

My very first quilt was 19 years ago when I was pregnant with my youngest son. It was a sampler and we had to cut all the templates out ourselves from template plastic, trace them on the fabric, cut them out and then hand sew them together! I made about 9 blocks before the birth of my son and finally sewed them together about 10 years later. :P Thanks for a fun giveaway!

Becca said...

My first quilt was a turning twenty again. I'm not sure what exactly is holding it together because I made every mistake in the book but it's warm, cuddly, and I love it.

Corinna said...

Well this is timely! I just came across my first quilt this morning as I cleaned my storage room. I must have been about 8 when I made it. It's a little doll quilt, with hand pieced 2" squares of flannel made into 9 patches. It's barely hanging together and I used pink fleece for the back and didn't quilt it....so maybe it's not technically a quilt. lol Anyways my gma showed me how to make it so I'll treasure it always. :o)

Linda said...

The first quilt I ever did on my own without any assistance from start to finish would be a HUGE 9 patch (each block was 18"!! lol) that I did in Scooby Doo & Fabric that looked like someone had gone Ape with Paint. My 17 year old still has it on her bed -this year will get replaced at Christmas time with one made from fabrics that all have music notes :) the squares are going to be 12" and I am desperately trying to master the block! LOL
Thank you for hosting a Fall giveaway!

My first quilt was made when I was in middle school. I wnt with my mom to a moonlight sale at Benfranklin craft store and they had 6" fabric squares on sale for $0.01 I can't remember how many I bought to make a twin quilt. I just sewed the blocks together and backed with a blanket and then tied it.... I threw it away 10 years ago after my DD's dog passed because it smelled of dog badly...

Well, since I'm new to quilting I haven't quite completed my frist quilt yet! I'm actually working on two different tops. One is a disappearing nine patch using the Portugal line from Moda. The other...well, I'm not quite sure what it's going to be. I've just been sewing 4" blocks together and hoping for the best!

Oh. My. Goodness. My fav colors, great giveaway! My first quilt was to impress my great-grandmother, she made awesome, HUGE quilts. I started a patchwork and by the time it got to about 24 inches, I was over it. So I finished it as best I could, showed her and she asked me if it was for my dollies (I was 12 and over dollies too). I told her it was for my puppy that I didn't have yet...It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. My mom still has it, it sits on my toddler rocking chair next to my mom's treadle machine that used to be my great-grandmother's treadle. Oh the circle of life!

My first quilt was self designed and I made it for my first child/daughter. It had little animals embroidered on the blocks and setting strips between all of the blocks. Not knowing any better I put it together with the fatest batting I could find. Then I tied all of the block corners with embroidery floss. Ah...live and learn. Honestly though the quilt has held up for more than 25 years. My DD still has it :)

The pinks and reds are beautiful and a great giveaway! My first quilt I made about 5 years ago and it was a Buggy Barn pattern and I did it as a BOM through my LQS. I learned an awful lot about getting that 1/4 inch seam just right! My first quilt???? My grandmother had a friend who showed me a Grandmother's Flower Garden quilt and I was hooked. I tried so hard to first draw a hexagon and then sew them together. I was probably 8 years old. You can imagine what it looked like. Needless to say, I have no idea what trash bin it ended up in.

My very first quilt was sadly simple. Just squares! It was a start though! I moved on to bigger, better and more complicated patterns after that!

Kristi said...

My first quilt was made in 2006. It was a baby quilt made of moda flannel out of blues, greens an purples. Don't remember the name of the pattern on the fabric, but it was so cute. The piecing was "Yellow Brick Road" and I did a free-motion quilting over the main part, a swirly design on the edges and at the top "wrote" with the machine "Oh what a joy!" I found the piecing to be easy and fun, and the quilting to be tedious and difficult. I have not finished another quilt yet, but have the main part of one done for my daughter's bed.

What a great giveaway prize! Lots of great fabric for Valentine's and Christmas! I am mostly a cross stitch/hardanger enthusiast, however, I did hand-quilt a baby throw "by accident" many years ago. I wanted it to be very "lofty", so when I got ready to machine quilt it, of course, it wouldn't feed through my machine, hence I was forced to hand-quilt it. It was hard work and I stuck myself many times and bled on the sweet little quilt - a fact that the owner was very proud of. I'm ashamed to say I haven't quilted since then, but would like to start incorporating some of my stitching into quilty-type projects. I love the look of the pieces at Country Garden Stitchery (http://www.countrygardenstitchery.com/) and think I could do some of that. Thanks for your generosity - brdstitcher at gmail dot com

My first quilt took TWENTY years to complete. I took a beginner's sampler class to learn how to quilt. This was back in the early 80's and the teacher looked down her nose at any machine work; she taught us hand piecing and hand quilting. My quilt actually got assembled, layered up, and the middle block was hand quilted by me. Then life got in the way, and years passed until a dear friend of mine saw it a few years ago and offered to take it home and finish the quilting! She did a wonderful job and I gave her lots of credit on the label. What a friend!

Thanks-

My first quilt was a Blue and Brown Log Cabin quilt. I still have it and use it but not too often. I almost quit quilting because of this quilt. I took a class with one other person and the quilt teacher gave us a handout. She told us to cut the strips and sew them together according to her instructions on the handout. Then she went around her store doing other things while the two of us sat and looked at each other. Between the two of us, we read the instructions and figured out the quilt. We became friends and never went to that store again. Thanks for doing the giveaway...hugs, Linda

My very first quilt was when I was pregnant for the first time. I made one with pink, blue, and white squares. It was super simple and quite small and actually pretty shabbily made but hey, you gotta start somewhere.

My first quilt was made out of recycled fabric from around the home - a threadbare pair of deep red velvet curtains, several pairs of wornout jeans, old kids clothes ... and it looked great once finished !!

Super pretty fabric, I love pink! My very first quilt was a disaster lol it was an experiement since I didn't really know anything about quilting or sewing for that matter and it turned out all weird after the super long time it took to make it. But after that I did more research and learned better techniques!

great fabrics.

my first quilt was a denim pineapple quilt. we did it with jeans bought from the thrift store, cut them apart(i would get blisters on my fingers from the scissors) and than once pieced, tie the quilt

I took a class and my very first quilt was a sample quilt. Everything was done my hand. It was so much fun and so relaxing. Thanks for a chance.

I love the pink! My first quilt would be when I was little, about 7-8 years old with my grandmother. She taught me the 9 patch. We would sit together by the fire and she would be piecing her square and she would tell me "your stiches are too long." I did finally get enough squares made and she quilted it for me, I have loved quilting ever since.

That bundle will make a great quilt!

My very first quilt was a kit my mom bought because she decided I needed something to do while my brand-new husband worked nights. I had no clue what I was getting into...I headed off to Joann's and bought a rotary cutter, a mat (not nearly big enough) and an acrylic ruler (definitely not wide enough). It was so inaccurate!! But I still put it up every year in the fall and look at it fondly. It really started me on my path to quilt obsession. ;)

My first quilt was a sampler quilt when a friend from my church agreed to teach some of us to quilt. I loved it from the beginning, the choosing of the fabric, the learning to use the ruler and that first slice thru the fabric....ahhhhhh.... I sound like a quilting stalker! It was a sampler of all stars. I love it!
Thanks for including me in your drawing!

Wow, 20 fat quarters, that is so generous. My first quilt was a queen size quilt made from men's ties and has over 300 buttons on it. Needless to say, it weighs a ton!!!

WOW that's a generous giveaway - I'd love to enter (from Canada)!

My first quilt was a real learning experience, lol. I cut each block with scissors - no rotary cutter or ruler - I drew the square onto the fabric with a cereal box template, so of course they weren't all equal. The rest of the quilt went fairly smoothly as I had sewn for a long time, but I'll never forget cutting out those darn squares one by one, LOL.

The first quilt I made was a twin size for my oldest daughter. I didn't know how to rotary cut properly, didn't even have any rulers yet, and didn't know the importance of cotton fabrics. But it still turned out nice and she still uses it.

Does the first quilt that was ever made for me count? My mom made me a Strawberry shortcake quilt....nearly 30 years ago and I still have it! I have also made a few baby quilts that my mom helped me tie off.
But, the fat quarters would be perfect for making a patchwork strip skirt for a boutique outfit for my DD for valentine's day!!

My first quilt was for a guild challenge. I was so naive that I designed it myself and it had paper piecing as well as regular blocks and I hand-quilted it. At a garden quilt show, I had several people want to BUY it, but since it was my first quilt, I keep it for sentimental reasons. And...after now being more experienced, I realized I had beginner's luck and that first quilt was actually very nice!!!

Hi Joyce,
oh, those fq's are really yummy...would give a nice quilt...!
As I just recently started quilting {well, it's about 1 1/2 years ago, but I still feel like an absolute beginner} I didn't think I could sew a big quilt all on my own {in my area there aren't that much quilt shops to take classes...} so I decided to make a little wall quilt, everything self-tought with help from a beginner book...I machine appliquéd some hearts and even managed to sew a mitered border...
Well, when I now look at this quilt I mostly see my mistakes (because I simply was too impatient...), but I like it nonetheless.
Hugs, Julia

Joyce, I made my first quilt in 1985 in a sampler class for beginners. Everything was done by hand except to sew on the binding. I think I did a pretty good job, except for fabric selection. Those fabrics were very low contrast and dull. (But I had to start somewhere!)
Please enter me! Thanks!

I love pink and red. My first quilt had preprinted blocks that I hand quilted back in the 70's. I wish I could find it now, think it was lost in a move.

Hello,

My very first quilt was one I made for my parent's 25th wedding anniversary. It was hunter green and burgundy with heart shaped hand applique and embroidery. My Aunt who was dying of breast cancer at the time was teaching me how to sew and quilt. So, it was a very special time and a special quilt (even though the quilt does not look that great).

I had always admired my Granny's quilts as a child and I was even given one when I married as a surprise. It had been saved for me for several years after Granny's death. Several years later, after I became disabled, I was in a Hobby Lobby and noticed a kit with materials and thread to hand quilt some potholders. I bought it and I tried it out and I was hooked. I make mini-quilts now and I even incorporate the design principals into paper arts and rubber stamping. I make cards and bookmarks. What fun! I have found something to do in my retirement years that never grows old. Thanks for sharing. Linda Crowder

I'm working on my very first quilt right now. It has big blocks! I'm making a twin size and hope to machine quilt it myself. I don't think I can bear to part with it so I'm keeping it for myself!

My first quilt was in the mid 80's. I didn't know anything about it really. I found an Amish pattern in a magazine and decided to make it. I learned much from that experience, the pattern measurements were incorrect and not to use white batting with a black fabric quilt! I did finish the quilt.

The only quilting I've done is for fabric pieced placemats. I have fabric cut and planned out for a doll quilt for my niece, but I'm a little intimidated to start it. It was supposed to be for her birthday and now I'm planning to have it done for Christmas.

My very first, and favorite quilt is one my Mother actually made for my husband and I. I've JUST signed up for a quilting class, so I haven't made one yet, but these fat quarters would be a nice addition to my "stash"! Thanks for a chance to win!

My first quilt is hanging in the hallway, still with basting threads. The binding is finished, just needs the quilting to be finished but I figured I'd hang it up anyway. I started hand quilting but think I might machine quilt quite a bit with a little more hand quilting. One day.

My first quilt was the biggest I´ve made, king size. It was pieced of 3" squares, purple fabrics. It was many years ago and I can´t understand how I managed to quilt it myself....
Wonderful giveaway, please count me in!

Doris said...

Wow, I'm not even sure which one counts as my first. Probably the Split Squares UFQ #4 (yes, it's unfinihsed, but my first attempt)...not sue which was the first one to get finished, probably the Christmas dogs wallhanging I made for my sister circa 2001?

The 1st quilt I started was a red/black and white log cabin back in the 70's. I managed through the cutting and part of the sewing before giving up in despair. (I'm a perfectionist, I admit!) My Mom rescued it, finished it and uses it on a guest bed. Fast forward to 2001 when I was introduced to rotary cutters and rulers by my Mom. Oh how I love quilting now!! Your fabrics are lovely - thanks for your generosity. a.simple.life@live.com

My first quilt was a yo-yo pattern I found in the back of Good Housekeeping magazine. I had a awful time of it back in 1995 before all of the nifty yo-yo makers where mainstream. I lost hope and gave up on it. A co-worker took pity on me and decided to teach me to quilt one on one in her home. I can't thank her enough because it was the start of a love affair with quilting that only grows deeper each year.

My first quilt was for my oldest son. It has embroidered blocks in a transportation theme and I did very simple borders, but I should have started with a baby quilt! I hadn't taken a class, I just decided that I could do it, and so I did!

My very first quilt never did quite get finished. The top was pieced and looked good, but then came the hand quilting part. I gave up. Wish I knew then what I know now. Took my 15 years to try again.

What a great gift! I made my first quilt with my mother when I was about 11 years old. I love that quilt so much, it has fabric from clothing that my mother made for all of my siblings.

Great Giveaway! My first quilt was a nightmare. I hand cut squares, but I don't think any of them were actually the same size. It was big, but really ugly. I wanted a quilt that looked like my Grandmothers quilts. I failed. 30 years later, I'm back at it, armed with a lot more knowledge, resources and tools!
Thanks for including me in your drawing!

My first quilt was made with whatever cottonish fabric I could find. At the time I loved the colours, and it went to a friend as a wedding present. She loved it too - unfortunately so did the sun, and it faded quite a bit.

Count me in on your drawing. As a mom of 3 boys, I'd love to play with pink for a bit.

my first patchwork was an apron for my sister's wedding shower made out of scraps from all the clothes I'd made; then I made a quilt in college for a design class a few years later -- wish I knew what happened to it all these years later! Thanks for the giveaway!

My first quilt, that I made from start to finish is a string quilt for my son. I just finished it this week!! I would love to win. Red is one of my top 3 colors.

oh my, those colors would look wonderful in an applique quilt!

My first quilt(s) was a baby quilt with a matching changing table cover made with the attic windows pattern. It was for our 3rd child, 16 years ago. I had no idea at the time that I'd picked something hard to do. It was all hand pieced and hand quilted and we still have the cover floating around here somewhere, though the quilt was used until it fell apart.

Hello! My first quilt is beautiful in my eyes and i am staring at it right now! It hangs in front of my computer so i can look at it every day. I took a quilt class paid for by my dear boyfriend. I had been wanting to learn to quilt and so he paid for me to take the class. It is kind of victorian and it is deep tans and maroons. A simple 9 patch. My first quilt was given to my brother and his wife for a present. I cut out all these little 4 inch blocks and sewed them together. It came out nice and they enjoyed it. Now that I look back and and think I wish I had the mats, rulers and cutters of today. That quilt would have been a sinch to make.
